2 to proclaim the year of the LORD's favor 3 and provide for those who grieve in Zion— 4 They will rebuild the ancient ruins Many of us have marveled over the idea of having a brotherhood or a group of guys that would truly be men of faith. To be a part of group of guys who would wrestle, argue, discuss, and mull over the scriptures and over life. Well, the past few weeks have been a work in progress for a few of us. My friends have decided that we would take a step in that direction. Here is that first step:
One friend suggested that we should call our group "The Oaks". A group of men named the "Inklings" (C.S. Lewis, J.R.R Tolkien, etc.) had an incredibly profound impact on our world, our culture, and our media and we would love to offer the same. The idea of "The Oaks" came from the passage of scripture listed below. Do you have such a group or would you like one?
Isaiah 61
The Year of the LORD's Favor
1 The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me,
because the LORD has anointed me
to preach good news to the poor.
He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,
to proclaim freedom for the captives
and release from darkness for the prisoners, [a]
and the day of vengeance of our God,
to comfort all who mourn,
to bestow on them a crown of beauty
instead of ashes,
the oil of gladness
instead of mourning,
and a garment of praise
instead of a spirit of despair.
They will be called oaks of righteousness,
a planting of the LORD
for the display of his splendor.
and restore the places long devastated;
they will renew the ruined cities
that have been devastated for generations
